Raise hand who actually want sweaters or socks or ties for christmas or the birthday, sometimes I feel that every Linux nerd has been built with the same presets of ideas :D
Speaking of presents: my girlfriend gave me a cool iPod radio remote control for this holiday, no more tampering with the jacket in these cold mornings just to change a song, huzzah!

...because cleaning it up, I discovered that almost a year ago I made my name into Tor sources: https://www.torproject.org/svn/trunk/contrib/linux-tor-prio.sh
From the svn log:
r16269@catbus: nickm | 2007-10-29 15:41:16 -0400
Apply linux-tor-prio.sh patch from Marco B by way of Mike.

One year and not knowing it: I'm too lame! Especially because it was even announced in the ChangeLog: http://archives.seul.org/or/talk/Nov-2007/msg00247.html :^)

Well, thanks to Mike Perry for taking the patch into account! All of you: go grab a copy of Tor and try it out with the super-duper priorization script!

By the way, speaking of Tor: I'll be again at SMAU eAcademy this year, talking about the common exploitation techniques used against Tor, see http://smau.it/event/eventview/1118/1/0,0/peeling_the_onion___attacchi_alla_rete_tor

Hope to see you there!

No, it's not a cheesy joke on my last post, it's the announcement that http://sidbox.homelinux.org/ is back on the road thanks to the help of Spiff Francesco who brings me a (almost) new ups :)

Thanks my friend!

Speaking about Tor, again :)
This time I'll held two talks at MOCA 2008, I hope to see you there!
(Not to mention that the organization put me first in the list instead of following the chronological order, I'm feeling a little under pressure :-p )

Sorry for the lack of updates: I'm overwhelmed with work, Slackintosh porting (Adrian is enjoying some vacation over in japan and I'm slowly integrating stuff all alone as you can see from the changelogs) and the rest of the real life.
Anyway, here's the good new: I'll be at e-privacy 2008 talking (again!) about Tor on behalf of LUG Piacenza, all this olympic stuff just comes down at the right moment for the talk :-P
And here's the bad one: I'm deadly late for the slides deadline =_=
I've also started taking lessons for contract bridge at one of our bridge circles, I can say I'm really enjoying this game so far (no serious game too, however) and yesterday I finished 10th at the Shadowmoor Magic prerelease tournament, just at the end of the prize zone. Cards are flipping out nicely lately :D

And last, but not least, my girlfriend just gave me a Mozilla Thunderbird pin: I'm the geekiest Mozilla fanboy out there now, thanks Ce! <3

I hope this week will not be busy as last one, anyway here's a small recap of what happened some days ago :)
On Tuesday I attended Infosecurity2008, really nice fair, where I had the opportunity to talk about tor and anonymizing networks once again on behalf of sikurezza.org, I also get to know some smart guys from that mailing list. Then on Wednesday night there was the mailing list party: lots of infosec hackers, lots of pizza and lots of beer too. It was absolutely funny.

Nice soup.io feature: list of who you choose as friends and who choose you as such.
Problem: non-mutual-to-them friends are marked as "stalkers", scary.

Hakiri just reposted them.
Raise hand who have never, ever, read or heard those words :)
It was one of the first thing I read when I start discovering what computers and internet are, yes, even before internet pr0n.

soupping images is funny, the provided bookmarklet let you soup almost anything from the browser.
bonus: if you suggest a link from a different domain doesn't work. I've soupped a daily dilbert image from my lj friends page and I wasn't able to link it back to dilbert.com
malus: it doesn't say you so :( and there's still no way to remove missoupped entries

I've tried out soup. It's an interesting concept: an rss feed aggregator with a built-in "throw this item in" feature, you just add stuff to it and it will show up on your page. The result isn't too interesting (please, don't mind the user icon: I'm still working on it) but I found it quite faster than lj (and I haven't posted an indipendent item yet, just rss aggregation).
It has still some major drawbacks (no comments, no friends only posts) but has some nice extra features like the "this item was reposted from this guy via this other guy" one.

For the first time in my life I've been at Vittorio's. One of our best place to eat LOT of good italian food.
And when I say good, it's really good. But when I say lot... it is more than you can imagine :D

This:
This is PASTAAAAAA!!!
is a photo taken before the epic battle between me and a wonderful dish of penne all'arrabbiata. They were really hot and delicious, did I say they were delicious?
Yes, those green things are spicy hot pepper slices. And, yes, if you're asking it to yourself, it was served on a pizza dish, not a normal pasta one. You can compare it with the size of the fork and knife on the right of the photo.
Yeah, I know, they're cut off but I had some troubles fitting the whole dish into the photo :)

My face when I first saw it was something like this (btw: take a look at the article if you haven't done yet. totally unrelated but a good one nevertheless). However, in the end, I managed to finish off that monstruosity, while my friend Davide took apart one of the biggest steak I've ever seen, served with lots of french fries (you can hint his meal from the top of the photo, same pizza-sized dish rule applies).

So, were could go two young pretty good-looking men after that meal? At Davide new gf pub, obviously. And what could such those young pretty good-looking men talk about after saying hello to the previous mentioned girl and leaving her to her work? Cryptography! Isn't that obvious?

We ended the evening watching "The kingdom", a film about an hypothetical heavy terrorist attack against american citizens in the middle east. An FBI task force takes on the investigations and decides to flight completely illegal and unauthorized over in the middle of the war to investigate and solve the case. Each pieces of evidence is accurately presented to the spectator and placed inside the puzzle, until about the middle of the film: when the story suddendly fucks up and the film ends with one of the bloodiest action scene ever filmed.

That's all for now. Tomorrow my gf will be here, so we'll spend the w-e together and I'm pretty happy about it.
See you soon.

This summer [info]lo_oris bought Max Berry Jennifer Government novel and I had the occasion to read it (in one day!). Now R'Lieh points out the fan site born after that novel pubblication: NationStates!
So, with no further ado, here's the Free Land of Cryptofun, located inside the Riviera dei Fuori, a region created by R'Lieh himself, the leader of the Bonto community.

WHOIS(1) Debian GNU/Linux WHOIS(1)
ok, this is gross. especially when read on a Slackware 12.0 ;-)

are you surprised?

don't be upset, most of Linux distributions run Marco D'Itri version of whois which has been mainly built on Debian, so the whois.1 man page reflect this.
Ok, Debian's own orig.tar.gz and diff.gz exist on purpose but sometimes developers are just too proud of their own choices about distibutions holy war :D

By the way, even Slackware "bin" package contains some Debian love: this package mainly consist of debianutils and some other programs like fbset, banners and todos/fromdos (and many many more in 11.0, before 12.0 splits). In this case we've a significant difference, though. The run-parts Debian c program has been swapped out in favor of a faster bash script written by Volkerding himself, which I modify for Slackintosh in order to allow the --run-parts option, required for pbbuttonsd daemon.
